BEAVER, WV ( WVNS ) – Beaver will soon seem a lot less crowded on the roads. All thanks to the Beckley Z-Way project.

This extension will help reduce congestion on US 19 from Shady Spring, through Beaver, and into Beckley. The new extension will widen US 19 and build a new roadway from US 19 and Airport Road to Interstate 64 at the Eisenhower Drive interchange.

West Virginia Secretary of Transportation, Jimmy Wriston, said the change will greatly benefit the Beaver area.

“This project will, will really take care of the congestion down here in Beaver. Everybody knows that it’s a parking lot down here at 5:00 and 6:00 in the morning. So this is going to help,” said Wriston.

Governor Jim Justice was a guest speaker for the groundbreaking on Thursday. He said he is very proud of the Roads to Prosperity project. Roads to Prosperity provides funding for roadwork projects across the state. The funding comes from a variety of sources, including the gas tax, vehicle sales tax, and general obligation bonds.

“In all honesty, no matter what anybody ever says. Roads to Prosperity took this state off. That’s all there is to it. You know, it was an idea that I believe came from the good Lord.”
