Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office makes statement on false claims in the county

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office made a statement regarding false threats about an active shooter.

According to a post on the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office gave a statement about false reports of an active shooter on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is aware of inaccurate reports circulating on social media regarding an active shooter and a child being shot at a local middle school. The reports are unfounded and baseless. Raleigh County Deputies did respond to assist Beckley Police Department on a report of an active shooter at a local bank earlier this morning. That report was completely false as well.

The statement about the false reports of an active shooter in parts of Raleigh County come after online threats towards schools throughout the state continue to circulate on social.
