HINTON, WV (WVNS) — West Virginia American Water announced a new project on Garden Street within Hinton.

Through their continued commitment to providing safe and reliable water, the company said, they will invest an estimated $175,000 in improvements to the water main from Maple Street to Cedar Avenue.

The project involves replacing more than 650 feet of the older water main with 6- and 8-inch PVC main. This construction will begin along Garden Street from Maple Street to Cedar Avenue. The aim of this project is to assure service reliability for their customers and reduce service disruptions, as well as improve fire flows.

Planned pop-up FARMacies to set up at two local medical locations

Crews are set to work Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; traffic restrictions will be enforced. It is expected that this replacement near the end of September and finishing touches to the street will be completed later in the fall of 2024.

While crews take on this project, it is possible for customers to experience disruptions in service, lowered water pressure, and discolored water. This will be resolved as soon as possible, but to report emergencies related to the project, main breaks, and more, click here .

In the past decade, West Virginia American Water has funded more than $736 million in projects dealing with infrastructure and upgrades to deteriorating infrastructure across the state, involving more than 160 miles of water main.
