BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Two West Virginia University nursing students were honored on the Beckley campus at a special signing ceremony on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Makenna Brown and Devon Edwards pledged to work in WVU Medicine.

Brown signed with Braxton County Memorial Hospital, while Edwards signed with Summersville Regional Medical Center.

Each will receive a $25,000 bonus and work at the hospitals for at least three years.

John Forester, the interim CEO of the hospitals, said the Aspiring Nurse program helps students financially and ensures the hospital has quality nursing staff.

“They give us a commitment of work after they graduate from their programs, but it helps to ensure that we are meeting our needs and being able to provide care to patients in the future,” Forester said.

The families of both Brown and Edwards attended the event, along with WVU professors and hospital officials.
