BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Beckley Common Council voted on first reading during the regular meeting on Tuesday, September 10 2024, to transfer ownership of Pinecrest Industrial Park to the Raleigh County Commission.

Council will vote again a second time at a later meeting to make the vote official.

Despite concerns of teachers at Beckley-Stratton Middle School, Council included around 30 acres adjacent to two local schools in the transfer.

The Salt Sulphur Springs Resort listed for sale at more than $1.7 million

Raleigh County Attorney Bill Roop said on Wednesday that concern for children will be a top priority when developing the acreage.

“The county’s position is we should be able to develop that property so that it can be used by both the kids there at Beckley Stratton and the development of a technology park there,” said Roop.

Local real estate agents have estimated the value of the acreage near the school to be $2.2 million, or $75,000 per acre.
