Mostly dry and breeze weekend, rain chances return next week

Saturday will begin on an overcast note, but Francine’s remnants will fall apart and as it does so, our clouds will begin to break, with a partly to mostly sunny sky by the afternoon. Temperatures will rebound as a result, with highs in the upper 70s. We’ll still have a stout breeze in the afternoon like we’ve seen today for Saturday, with southeast wind gusts as high as 25 mph possible. That, in combination with our significant drought and continued warm and dry conditions will make for a dangerous fire setup Saturday and into Sunday. Please do not burn!

Sunday provides plenty of sunshine with our blocking ridge up to our northeast keeping us dry. Temperatures will once again warm to nearly 80 degrees. Aside from the fact that we desperately need rain, the weekend weather overall is very solid.

Monday sees an increase in clouds with an area of low pressure trying to develop off the Atlantic coast. Our area of high pressure will continue to remain tough to break though as our blocking pattern – a rex block – remains intact. That means we are remaining dry with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s.

    How does drought affect groundwater?

Tuesday brings a chance for showers in the afternoon, as an area of low pressure looks to scoot into the region from the Carolinas. This will provide a few showers, especially the farther southeast you are with highs in the mid 70s.

Wednesday looks to provide our best chance for showers, with showers likely as that low pressure system moves over the region. It’s not a lot of rain but we’ll take what we can get. At this point, a quarter to a half inch of rain looks to be a good bet. We’ll see high temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

Thursday keeps the unsettled pattern around with highs in the mid 70s. Despite an occasional light shower or two, this unsettled pattern will not bear much fruit, as rainfall totals look light.

Dry conditions can lead to brush fires – so how can you stay safe?

Friday is when we begin to dry out with another dry few days on the way with high pressure moving back in control with highs in the upper 70s.
