FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The Fayette County Humane Society announced that the shelter is still in Code Red status as of Monday, September 16, 2024.

According to a post on the Fayette County Humane Society’s Facebook page, as of Monday, September 16, 2024, the shelter remains over capacity and in Code Red status with only four open cages in the main run.

Burn ban announced for Fayette County

The Fayette County Humane Society stated that dogs are being kept in the outside runs full-time due to being at full capacity and needing to use the available space at the shelter.

According to the Fayette County Humane Society, the adoption rates for large dogs at the shelter are at an all-time low. The shelter stated that while people often want puppies, there are large dogs at the Fayette County Humane Society that have been at the shelter for more than a year, as well as dogs that lived with fosters for months, who are looking for homes.

Due to the shelter being in Code Red, the animal control officer will not be able to bring in animals to the shelter due to lack of space.

Tourism agencies awarded for outstanding achievement

According to the Fayette County Humane Society, $40 adoptions for dogs six months and older will be offered from Tuesday, September 17, 2024 to Saturday, September 21, 2024. The shelter stated that those who are looking to adopt a ‘fur-ever’ friend will be able to find a variety of colors, breeds, sizes, and personalities to choose from.

The $40 adoptions can also be sponsored, and people who would like to sponsor an adoption can do so on the Fayette County Humane Society’s PayPal or Venmo accounts.

The Fayette County Humane Society stated that spaying and neutering animals is highly recommended, and that people can call or message the shelter where they can help people who are looking for low-cost spay and neuter options.

I pray 🙏 for relief for those fur babies to find fosters or adopting families.
