BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Locals joined together for a special walk to help put an end to a serious disorder.

Teams joined together for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Before they walked, ARH set up a booth to hand out hiking sticks, guest speakers sharing their stories, and a raffle table.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s Committee Member Kelly Elkins told 59News why walkers gathered.

“Many of us in the community, or our friends and family members, we’ve lost someone to this terrible disease. So, we’re walking today to put an end to it,” said Elkins.

The proceeds from this walk went to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Around thirty teams joined together to walk around the Convention Center for this special cause. Elkins said they had close to 125 walkers.
