Shower chances persist Wednesday, warmer end to week

Tonight, features mostly cloudy skies with a few scattered light showers once again. These showers won’t amount to much rainfall, but it is helping with fire relief. Temperatures will drop back to around 60 with an easterly breeze that could gust to as high as 20 mph.
Wednesday keeps the chances for showers around, as our low pressure system begins to move off to our northeast. With the low nearby, we’ll still have showers scattered across the two Virginias, though we’ll have plenty of breaks, with highs in the mid 70s. Showers will be more scattered than on Tuesday.
Thursday continues our rain chances for one more day, though they’ll be widely scattered at best in the afternoon. We’ll see partly sunny skies in between showers with high temperatures once again in the mid 70s. Though the rain showers will be wildly scattered, brief locally heavy rain is possible due to the convective nature of these showers. Many of us will remain dry, however.
Friday brings high pressure back into the picture and that means we will dry out and begin to warm up, with temperatures jumping back into the upper 70s for highs under mostly sunny skies. With drier air in place, we will see low temperatures on Friday night drop back into the low 50s once again.
Saturday continues the sunny pattern, which will take us through the weekend with high pressure in control. Highs temperatures will be near 80 degrees with mostly sunny skies.
Sunday sees partly sunny skies, but clouds will begin to increase toward dinnertime as our next system begins to approach Monday. We’ll see high temperatures once again near 80 degrees – not exactly a fall-like feel for the first day of fall!
Monday provides partly sunny skies out ahead of our next potential weathermaker that could scoot nearby on Tuesday. We’ll see highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Tuesday brings the return of shower activity to the region with a cold front scooting through. This front will bring the chances for rain and cooler weather for the second half of next week. Highs Tuesday will be near 80 degrees.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we’ll be drying back out. High pressure will retain control of our weather Wednesday afternoon through Friday, with highs Wednesday and Thursday in the mid 70s and highs back into the upper 70s for Friday.
