RICHWOOD, WV (WVNS) – The state of emergency that Nicholas County declared could help the county avoid major problems.

Nicholas County officials urged citizens to use as little water as possible. Their water supply was stabilized as of Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, but with the drought happening and little water coming in, they are taking extra precaution.

None of the people or businesses that 59News spoke with were having to drastically alter their daily routine as of Tuesday. However, many people were having to rethink how they strategically use their water on a limited basis.

Richwood resident Dan Snyder said he was prepared to do his part in conserving water.

“I just hope everyone will conserve. We are wasting water, because once it goes out, all these businesses will have to close,” said Snyder.

Snyder said he fears a bad fire breaking out in the town of Richwood more than severe flooding at this point.

John McGinnis, the Director of Emergency Management, told 59News that the county does have emergency plans that they are considering in case the water supply does run out.

One such solution they are considering involves them investing in a tanker to come in and supply water wherever is necessary.
