BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Beckley Common Councill could approve the hire of a permanent city manager as early as mid-October, Beckley Mayor Ryan Neal said on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Mayor Neal said that a selection committee was very close to approving a new candidate.

He did not offer the candidate’s name but said he expected the new city manager to be in place during the second week of October.

Downtown revitalization will be an immediate priority, he said.

“Everybody wants to clean up uptown Beckley. I’m sure when a city manager gets here, that’s going to be their top priority, is to make Beckley more appealing,” Mayor Neal said. “That’s my top priority, to attract more businesses and things like that, so I’m excited to work with our new city manager.”

Worley stepped into the role when it was vacated last month by retired city treasurer Billie Trump.
