Raleigh County, WV (WVNS) –You may already be seeing the beginning of construction in Shady Spring for the Z-WAY project.

The 3.6 mile project aims to connect Beaver to the South Eisenhower Drive area of the Z-WAY.

It is no surprise that the Z-WAY construction taking place is causing bounds of traffic. But the backup being caused on the roadways is expected to pay off. With the potential of a growing population, the project is considered a necessity.

“I always kind of like the idea of having just like one single lane through here. But I mean, if the population grows, if there’s more cars on the road, then yeah, for sure we’ll definitely need more,” said Jordan Hall, who lives in Cool Ridge.

However, a concern that some residents have is for emergency vehicles. Responders would not be able to get through the road very easily. The standstill traffic will could be detrimental to someone’s wellbeing.

“And God knows somebody shouldn’t lose their life over traffic because emergencies happen every day. You know, and not being able to get to somebody that is in dire need is going to be a problem,” Angela Brown, who is a Shady Spring resident.

People who manage, own, or run businesses are concerned that the project is going to take too long. Which causes companies to suffer because of lack of people that are showing up. Some suggest the construction should take place during the night to offset the effect of absence of individuals.

“It affects our customers and affects our employees arriving on time you know. Just ideally, it’d be great if they could work on it at night. The entire community would appreciate that,” said Shawn Miller.

The Z-WAY has some pros and cons for residents in our community. Areas of Concern range from traffic, time, safety, to the effects on businesses. People are grateful that the county is doing something that will ultimately help the area.
