BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Emma Harvey is camp director of the Boys and Girls Club at The Salvation Army of Beckley.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Harvey was among dozens of organizational leaders gathered at Historic Black Knight Municipal Park in Beckley for Beckley Leadership 2024, a multi-week course that is sponsored by Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce.

“I really wanted to put my head together with other people in the community who also need help with different things in their businesses, because when we do that, we can get more accomplished as a community,” said Harvey.

Leadership Beckley is a multi-week course which equips people to lead their organizations more effectively, and to provide more help to community needs and initiatives.

BRCCC CEO Michelle Rotellini said Leadership Beckley has already made an impact on Raleigh County.

“We began in 2018, and it’s just a way to help new leaders make relationships in the community so they can collaborate on projects that help move us forward economically,” explained Rotellini.

Leaders from different sectors come together to offer their knowledge to class members during Leadership Beckley.

The sponsor of Leadership Beckley 2024 is WVU Tech.

Nathan Galinsky, an assistant professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at WVU Tech, actively promotes STEM learning in the region.

He said on Wednesday that he enrolled in Leadership Beckley 2024 in order to widen his STEM education efforts.

“It’s an opportunity for me to kind of reach out and meet people and find out things in the community and try to work with the community to improve the educational system and get students more interested in STEM,” said Galinsky.
