Rainelle Medical Center Player of the Week: Bluefield QB Mattox Simpson

BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) – Let’s close the book on Week 3 of our local high school football season by announcing our Rainelle Medical Center Player of the Week!

This week’s Rainelle Medical Center Player of the Week is Bluefield Quarterback Mattox Simpson.

Not only did the freshman throw his first career touchdown pass against Greenbrier East, he led a furious Beavers comeback, as they turned a 40-21 deficit into a 42-40 win behind Simpson’s excellent play down the stretch.

Simpson was 15/31 for 380 yards and three touchdowns, the last of which was a game-winning score on 4th down, with four seconds left in the game.

Simpson and the Beavers travel to Beckley on Friday to renew their rivalry with the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles.
