BEAVER, WV (WVNS) – New River Community and Technical College teamed up with Marshall University to provide more opportunities for students.

Students and future students of New River Community and Technical College now have the opportunity to go even further with their education.

The new Bachelor’s degree program will not only assist in transferring credit hours to Marshall, but also lessen the stress of those credits not being accepted.

Marshall President Brad Smith, said he is very excited about the collaboration, and hopes to better the schools, and West Virginia as a whole.

“We knew we had friction that still got in the way of the students, that they wanted to continue that education. Thanks to President Copenhaver, she reached out and said, ‘let’s eliminate that friction,’ and we’ve embraced the opportunity. Here we are today,” said Smith.

New River CTC President, Dr. Bonny Copenhaver said this collaboration is a long time in the making.

Students in select programs are immediately available to start pursuing their 4-year program with Marshall.

“This is such a victory for our students here. But the ones we currently have, the ones who graduated in the past this way and ones going forward,” said Dr. Copenhaver.

Dr. Copenhaver says that going forward, students should be able to seamlessly transfer their credits to further their education and their future.
