    Chili Night 2024: Enjoy food, music and fun in Beckley

    BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Beckley’s 33rd Chili Night is just around the corner, so be sure to bring your appetite!

    On October 5, 2024, attendees to the event can enjoy samples of chili from over 30 organizations from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Beckley. 30 additional booths will be ready to offer crafts, food, products, and more!

    Live entertainment will be available across the area. The current schedule from Beckley Events is below:

    • Word Park Gazebo: Piney Creek Canyon Band , 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Left front of the WVU Tech building: Bragg n Mann , 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Main Street portable stage: Thomas Danley , 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Refit will have a dance demo from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Shoemaker Square pergola: Next Generation Gospel Band, 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Bottle and Bride will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Cardinals’ deck area: Seeking Altitude, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Hospice will pick a winner for the El Camino classic car raffle, followed by the awards for the chili contest and booths at 7 p.m.
    • The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre will have a piano available for those in attendance to play.
    WWHS art students partnered with BEX to create local artwork of Appalachian folklore

    Art shows include Tom Acosta’s Four Decades of Painting West Virginia presented by Jose Rizo located in the Grant Building on Neville Street, as well as an exhibit from Kabrea James of Inner Sunshine hosted at Lifted Up on Neville Street, the former location of Tickety Boo.

    Activities for children include a bounce house and slide located in Word Park. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club will potentially do face painting, balloon animals in collaboration with WVU Tech, games, water, and glow-in-the-dark items, as well! As for Shoemaker Square, the Child Evangelism Fellowship will offer face painting at no cost and hopes to share the Gospel, and the organization, Love Thy Neighbor, will create balloon animals for youngsters. Booths at the event may also host games and other activities to enjoy!

    There is no cost to enter Chili Night and enjoy a stroll through town and take in the entertainment, but those who wish to try chili samples need sample tickets to do so. For $5, guests will receive 5 sample tickets and a coin to cast their vote in the People’s Choice chili contest. Tickets can be purchased for the event in advance online here or in-person by visiting the Youth Museum from September 27, 2024 to October 4, 2024.

    New River CTC and Marshall collab for affiliation agreement

    Those who purchased their tickets online must show their receipt to get their tickets and voting coin at the Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre on the day of the event. Tickets will also be available to purchase at booth located at the Theatre, Neville Street, and Main Street. Payments can be in the form of cash or card.

    Downtown businesses open during event hours include Taya and Abraham’s International Grocer, Upland Soul, Scentister, Fosters, Cheers, and the brand new Uptown Dish on Main Street.

    Attendees are not to bring pets to the event, as requested by the Beckley Events Committee. Large crowds may create an unsafe environment, so as a safety precaution, it is suggested that pets are left at home. Local police also requests that parents join their children if they are under 15 years of age.

    We appreciate the community’s support for this event. The chili participants put so much effort into making their chili and decorating their booths. Chili Night has become a fall tradition in our community. The money raised from ticket sales helps our committee to be able to offer events throughout the year.
