PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — Banned Book Week is an important day to remember and reflect, with local librarians getting into the spirit of going against the grain.

Banned Book Week is an annual event that highlights the value of free and open access to information. The 2024 edition of Banned Book Week will last from September 22nd through 28th, 2024. One local librarian said she is grateful that we are surrounded by a welcoming and open community.

Banned Books Week starts with mixed messages as reports show challenges both up and down

“We are very fortunate to be in a very supporting community of the libraries and stuff, so we haven’t had any issues here personally,” said Elizabeth Buchanan with the Princeton Public Library.

What may surprising to some is the best selling books that have hit the banned list. Some of the most popular banned books include Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and My Hero Academia.
