Local high school football games postponed due to weather

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — Multiple local high school football games were postponed due to weather caused by Tropical Storm Helene.

According to Facebook posts from local schools, football games between various schools were postponed due to weather.

Known football games that were postponed include:

• Shady Spring High School and PikeView High School: Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.
• Princeton Senior High School and Tazewell High School: Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
• Mount View High School and Sherman High School
• James Monroe High School and Narrows High School
• River View High School and Van High School

According to a post on the Princeton Senior High School’s Facebook page, the homecoming game between Princeton Senior High School and Tazewell High School was postponed to ensure the safety of athletes and staff members from both schools.

The Princeton homecoming game was postponed to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and homecoming festivities will take place at half-time.

Homecoming candidates will be able to enter the stadium at the Tiger Drive gate, admission for homecoming candidates is free, and candidates will be able to check in at 12:45 p.m. to get their flowers at the band concessions.

The homecoming game was originally scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2024.

According to a Facebook post made by Shady Spring High School, the homecoming game between Shady Spring High School and PikeView High School was postponed to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 for the safety of all athletes and staff.

The Shady Spring High School Homecoming Parade scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2024 was also postponed, and further details about the rescheduled parade date will be released by Shady Spring High School at a later time.

A post on the McDowell County Schools Facebook page stated that River View High School’s homecoming parade was rescheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

McDowell County Schools stated that River View High School’s homecoming game was rescheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 with the crowning ceremony taking place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024.

According to the McDowell County Schools’ Facebook page, the football game between Mount View High School and Sherman High School was rescheduled for October 21, 2024, and will include Senior Night activities.

The Monroe County Schools’ Facebook page stated that due to flood risks, the James Monroe High School and Narrows High School football game was rescheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 at James Monroe High School.
