    McDowell County residents advised to stay home during severe weather

    MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — Residents of McDowell County are advised to stay home and off off roadways due to weather and fallen trees caused by Tropical Storm Helene.

    According to Facebook posts made by McDowell County 911 and Office of Emergency Services, people are advised to stay home unless it is an emergency. They encouraged anyone out on roadways to head home or to find a safe location.

    The McDowell County 911 and Office of Emergency Services Facebook page also stated that there are road closures due to downed trees.

    Road closures at this time due to fallen trees include:

    • Burke Mountian is closed
    • Peel Chestnut Roads are closed

    McDowell County 911 and Office of Emergency Services advised people to stay home, avoid traveling, and to stay safe.
