HINTON, WV (WVNS) – The weather we are receiving from Hurricane Helene is causing issues for everyone in its path.

This foul weather has the potential to damage some local farms and hinder farmers’ work, especially as we head into the harvest season. However, farmer Mark Meador of Hinton told 59News that it is quite the opposite for his farm. He said this rain has brought relief to his farm after a long season of drought.

“It has helped a whole lot. Everything had dried up. The pasture is coming back. Until it freezes, the pasture will be pretty good for a while. It has turned green in the past three days,” said Meador.

It has even revived a creek that ran along his farm. He said his water supply is now overflowing.

This much needed rain does come with a lot of hiccups. Meador told 59News there are a few trees down on the farm, thankfully none of which harmed his livestock.

“See in the distance here, they have torn fences down. Probably for about three weeks or a month I will be busy cutting trees off of fences and patching fences,” said Meador.

Meador said he will be proactively checking on his livestock to ensure their safety through the storm.
