PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Whether it was the rain, high water, or strong winds, Mercer County locals saw their fair share of storms from Helene on Friday, September 27th.

Take Chris Hall for example, a sales associate for Ace Hardware in Princeton.

He left for work in the early morning hours, which proved to be a challenge.

“It was crazy, I got blown all over I-77. The tractor trailers, I fell in behind one and he started swerving over toward me. So I eased off and I was like ‘woah.'”

Chris was not the only one who had stories. Sue Hardin, the owner of The Sewing Gallery in downtown Princeton, had some as well.

She had to send people home early to keep them safe from the storms.

“The wind has been strong. I opened the backdoor and it pulled the door out of my hand. The wind has been so strong and the water on the road is very heavy.”

As we got into the afternoon timeframe, Chris saw more people starting to buy chainsaws and gasoline to help with damages.

And as we continue into the weekend, both urged people to still follow precautions and proper safety.

“I wouldn’t advise people to get out in it with the high waters from the effect of the rain.”

“Just stay safe and if you don’t have to come out, don’t come out. If you do have to come out, just watch for rising water.”
