BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) – Communities all over Southern West Virginia are still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

59News visited the Bluefields to see the damage that was done. There are lots of downed trees throughout the streets, parks, and even people’s yards.

As many Bluefield residents live inside the city and town limits, it can be difficult to find a place to get rid of their debris.

Brady Brown, a groundsman for the Mountain State Tree Service explained that residents trying to find a way to get rid of their debris can bring it to a site by the Bluefield Area Little League Fields in Bluefield City Park.

“We have so much debris and so many downed trees. The City of Bluefield thought it was a good idea to get us up here to the park to dump all the organic brush,” said Brown.

This site was open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 29.

Brown told 59News that the city will continue to open this dump area as clean-up continues.

Only organic brush is allowed to be dumped at this site.

Sadly, most folks don’t have trucks or physical ability to clean up, load or haul their fallen trees, limbs, etc.
