BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) –It is in trying times that services like the ones provided by the Bluefield Union Mission are most in demand.

The mission serves hot meals daily to people in need and operates a food pantry where you can go and get some non-perishable supplies.

As Bluefield has now been without power for days following what was then Tropical Storm Helene, the hot meals could not be served. But the pantry was very active, with high demand from the community.

Director of the Mission, Craig Hammond said the mission is always here to help.

“We were ready for it. That’s the beautiful thing. Our supplies are good. Now we couldn’t cook meals because out power went out for a while but we had a lot of self stable food that people could eat without having to cook our refrigerate so all in all we fared very well,” Craig Hammond told 59News.

Hammond said Bluefield was mostly empty over the weekend, because everyone was in Princeton hitting the fast food restaurants.

If you would like to help restock the shelves, the Bluefield Union mission does take donations.
