    Greenbrier Humane Society announces full capacity status

    LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) — The Greenbrier Humane Society is closing their doors to all intakes due to being over full capacity as of Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

    According to a post on the Greenbrier Humane Society’s Facebook page, the shelter is past full capacity, with a negative amounts of kennels available. Due to the lack of kennel space, a wire crate needed to be set up for an intake.

    The post stated that 10 dogs arrived at the shelter on the morning of Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and one dog will end up spending approximately 22 hours each day in a wire crate due to there being a negative amount of kennel space available.

    The Greenbrier Humane Society’s Facebook post stated that the shelter will be closed to all intakes at this time because of the lack of space. Anyone who finds an injured or sick animal can call the Greenbrier Humane Society at 304-645-4775.

    During the month of October 2024, the Greenbrier Humane Society is one of three shelters in West Virginia that are participating in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s fall Empty the Shelters event .

    As a part of the Empty the Shelters event, the Greenbrier Humane Society stated that all adoptions are sponsored until October 15, 2024.

    The Greenbrier Humane Society will be open during their normal hours from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for adoption and foster only. The shelter is located at 151 Holliday Lane, Lewisburg, West Virginia.
