    Retrace the road to the Battle of Point Pleasant with a lantern convoy throughout the region!

    CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, a lantern convoy will travel throughout state and retrace the steps taken in the Battle of Point Pleasant.

    The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History (WVDACH) and the West Virginia America 250th Commission will mark the anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant by conveying a lantern across the routes of colonial troops on their way to the conflict.

    Commemorate West Virginia’s history and its role in the American Revolution in Huntington

    The schedule of the convoy is below:

    • 8:00 a.m. – Greenbrier County Courthouse in Lewisburg
    • 9:05 a.m. – Summers County Courthouse in Hinton
    • 10:00 a.m. – Raleigh County Courthouse in Beckley
    • 10:50 a.m. – Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville
    • 12:30 p.m. – State Capitol Building (Lincoln Plaza) in Charleston
    • 1:40 p.m. – Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield
    • 2:45 p.m. – Arrive Tu-Endi-Wei State Park in Point Pleasant
    • 3:30 p.m. – Convoy Concludes

    The voyage will begin at the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 8 a.m. and retrace the steps of those who participated in the Battle of Point Pleasant to Tu-Endi-Wei State Park, located at Point Pleasant. Governor Justice will be in attendance to present a ceremonial lantern and certificate at each stop, which is estimated to last approximately twenty minutes.

    The 250th Battle of Point Pleasant ceremonies are open to the public at no cost.
