According to a press release, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia launched an investigation into the spilling of sewer system waste between two McDowell County schools.

Members of the Public Service Commission of West Virginia will investigate the sewer system in the town of Bradshaw, while advising the town to go into an operation and management (O&M) agreement with the McDowell County Public Service District so that the district will be able to oversee the utility operations.

The press release stated that in a petition filed on September 25, 2024, members of the Commission found that the sewer lift station in the town of Bradshaw was spilling untreated sewage onto the ground near two schools for around four to six months without being fixed.

The sewer waste spillage around Bradshaw Elementary School and River View High School could cause problems, and staff members requested that the Public Service Commission of West Virginia investigate the sewer system, and take immediate action regarding the spilling of sewer system waste, as well as listing a number of other problems.

Staff members said the spillage, “creates a risk of irreparable harm,” when asking for the Commission’s input.

McDowell County PSD and the town of Bradshaw will need to file their O&M agreement with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia within 30 days.
