BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Whether you are young or old, keeping up with your health is an important part of life.

Thankfully, local organizations gathered in Beckley on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 9th to make that process a little bit easier.

The Coalfields Community Health Fair was held at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

Dozens of booths were set up, each with their own unique way of examining your health.

From blood pressure screenings to checkups with local physicians, it had just about everything you could ask for.

Event organizers said it was much more than a health fair however. It was about keeping the community strong and healthy.

I see these seniors come through and I think of my mother who if she was alive today, she would be here taking part in this event.”

Kelly Elkins, Regional Community Development Manager for Appalachian Regional Healthcare

My grandparents didn’t even have indoor plumbing until I was nine years old. So to be able to give back to the community that I was raised in and I love so much, that’s why it means so much to me.”

Tammy Richardson, Director of Case Management with Raleigh General Hospital

Organizers said they were hoping to pull in about 500 locals to the health fair Wednesday afternoon.

When they host it again next year, they are hoping to go above and beyond what they did this year.
