Local high school golf team takes home 2024 AA State Championship title

WHEELING, WV (WVNS) — The Shady Spring High School golf team took home the 2024 AA State Championship team title after competing in the 2024 WVSSAC Golf Championships in Wheeling, West Virginia.
According to the WVSSAC website , the golf team at Shady Spring High School received the 2024 AA State Championship team title with a total score of +59 (485).
Second place went to Wheeling Central with +76 (502), Chapmanville and Ripley tied for third at +107 (533), and Lewis County +134 (560) and Williamstown +135 (561), were in close contention for fifth place.
Four members of the golf team at Shady Spring High School also placed within the top eight. The top eight All-State individuals included:
The Class AAA Team Championship title went to the golf team at Cabell Midland High School, the first team Class AAA championship title since 2016 a combined score of +31 (457).
The golf team at Hurricane placed with a score of +51 (477), University placed third at +69 (495), Washington finished in fourth place at +70 (496), and George Washington placed fifth with a score of +72 (498).
Greenbrier East High School’s golf team made the top ten with a seventh place finish.
The top eight individuals who earned All-State honors in Class AAA include:
St. Marys High School took home the Class A Team Championship title with a total score of +71 (497).
Second place for the team awards went to Charleston Catholic with +88 (514), while Gilmer County placed third at +103 (529), and Petersburg finished with +109 (535) in fourth place.
A member of Montcalm High School’s golf team placed in the top three for the individual Class A awards at the 2024 WVSSAC Golf Championships.

2. Trent Renner – St. Marys, +16 (158)
3. Rocky Frye – Montcalm, +20 (162)
4. Grant Roush – Wahama, +21 (163)
5. Will Gruse – Charleston Catholic, +22 (164)
6. Preston Lawhon – St. Marys, +25 (167)
7. Ben Carew – Charleston Catholic, +27 (169)

T8. Braylon Mencer – Gilmer County, +30 (172)
