LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) — Greenbrier Valley Airport released a statement on October 8, 2024 announcing that it received an award from the U.S. EDA in the amount of approximately $2.8 million.

The award of $2.8 million in federal funding will be used towards the expansion and improvement of important infrastructure. According to a press release, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) approved the funding through the Economic Adjustment Assistance Program. The entire project, costing approximately $3.7 million, contains an investment of $700,000.

This action highlights the EDA’s dedication to leading economic development through enabling innovation and competition to gain success in the global economy.

    The improvement project includes:

    • Construction of 10 T hangars, each approximately 1,135 feet in size
    • Building a 550- square foot meeting area with restroom availability
    • Installing nearly 1,800 linear feet of water line
    • Installing an additional 3,500 feet of sewer line

Martha Livesay, the airport director, said the T hangers are much needed.

We have a waiting list that well exceeds the amount that we will be able to build at this time, but it will certainly help. There are probably twenty-some people on the waiting list and have been waiting for several years for a T-hangar.

The new structures and building projects are expected to generate more aviation activity and businesses geared toward that field to the area with the hope of job creation.

We are thrilled to receive this crucial funding from the EDA. These improvements will not only enhance our airport’s capabilities but also contribute to the economic growth of our region.
