OCEANA, WV (WVNS) — A Wyoming County man pleaded guilty to attempt to commit a felony.

According to a press release, 67-year-old Tommy Ray Wilson, of Kopperston, pleaded guilty to Attempt to Commit a Felony on October 9, 2024.

Man sentenced in Tazewell County for the death of “Charlie the Dog”

Members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a stolen car in the Oceana area of Wyoming County on July 2, 2024. Law enforcement officers were informed by a witness that Wilson went into her house without permission, took her father’s car keys, and proceeded to take her father’s car.

The father of the witness told members of law enforcement that Wilson did not have permission to take the car, and members of law enforcement stated that Wilson said he planned to return the car after he got married.

Wilson’s sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2024 and he faces one to three years in prison.

The facts of this case are admittedly strange. But the end result is the same. It is a felony to take someone’s vehicle without permission, and we will prosecute those individuals without hesitation.

Gregory Bishop | Wyoming County Prosecutor

Bishop thanked Derek Laxton and the prosecutor staff, as well as Corporal Justin Grimmette and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for their work on the investigation.
