Tonight features increasing clouds with a few cold rain showers, mainly after midnight. Temperatures will be cold enough in the high country for snowflakes to fly, but no accumulation is expected even at the highest peaks tonight as a trough digs into the area. This initial trough will be weak, but a stronger trough will arrive Tuesday. Lows tonight will dip back into the mid 30s. Winds will continue to be breezy, with gusts up to 20 mph possible.

Tuesday is a mostly cloudy, November-like day with scattered showers likely as a trough digs into the region. This will keep temperatures held down to around 50 degrees for highs with off-and-on showers likely throughout the day, but particularly in the afternoon as a stronger trough scoots in. As we head into the overnight hours, rain showers will switch to a few snowflakes even in the lowlands with temperatures dropping to around freezing.

A brief light accumulation of up to an inch is possible in the high country overnight under the heaviest snow showers, but warm grounds will make it very difficult for anything to stick for long periods of time. Though most of us are out of the growing season now, McDowell and Wyoming counties are now, and frost will be a good bet as our wind begins to relax.

Wednesday continues the risk for a light mixed bag of precipitation over the mountains, where clouds will keep temperatures held down into the low 40s and upper 30s for highs, but we should see the sunshine peak back out in the lowlands. Despite the sunshine, temperatures are really going to struggle to climb even in the valleys, with highs struggling to reach the mid 40s in what will feel more like December! The deep chill is short-lived, however. We’ll have a cold night with low temperatures in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees and clearing skies. The last time we’ve been that cold was all the way back on April 7th!

Thursday sees our temperatures begin to rebound. A strong high pressure system moving out of Canada into the northern US on Wednesday will move directly over the area on Thursday. This will provide partly to mostly sunny skies and temperatures rebounding into the mid 50s. Another frosty night is expected Thursday night into Friday.

Friday will be an even warmer day as high pressure shifts off to our east. As a result, we will pick up a southerly breeze, which will make for a much warmer afternoon with highs in the low to mid 60s. High school football games will be dry with mostly clear skies, but much like last week, those games will be chilly by the end of the fourth quarter, so dress accordingly, as we’ll be back into the mid 40s by the end of area games.

Saturday continues the warming trend with plenty of sunshine expected and highs in the mid 60s as our southerly breeze continues. That’s close to normal for this time of year in terms of high temperatures. For those attending Bridge Day, the weather looks great and the wind will be relaxed for those dare-deviling off the bridge!

Sunday keeps the dry weather pattern continuing, as high pressure continues to sit over the area. This means storm systems will be moving around us, not through us. Mostly sunny skies are expected with highs pushing to near 70.

Monday once again will be dry with temperatures in the low 70s with plenty of sunshine expected.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, our dry pattern will be continuing. This is not good for our drought and fire threats, which are slowly increasing with each dry day. Temperatures will be slightly above normal Tuesday through Thursday as we make a return into the 70s.
