TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA (WVNS) — A Disaster Recovery Center opened in Tazewell County on October 11, 2024.

According to a press release, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opened in Tazewell County on Friday, October 11, 2024, and can be found at the County Administration Building at 197 Main Street in Tazewell, Virginia.

FEMA Disaster Assistance application available in Bluefield, Virginia for those affected by Tropical Storm Helene

The DRC is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and is closed on Sundays.

There are many things that people can go to DRC’s for such as:

    • Checking the status of their FEMA application
    • Apply for disaster assistance
    • Helping people understand FEMA letters or notices
    • Find information on housing and rental assistance
    • Learn how to replace lost documents
    • Receive referrals to other agencies in Virginia
    • Get information about low-interest Small Business Administration (SBA) loans

People can go to DRC’s to figure out what to do next if they get a letter from FEMA about the status of their application. Staff members at the recovery centers can help people submit more information or other documents for FEMA to be able to process the application, and as well as answering questions people could have.

Free private well testing offered in southwest Virginia due to flooding caused by Helene

Disaster survivors can get help at the Disaster Recovery Center location. More DRC’s will open in southwest Virginia in upcoming weeks. They can also register with FEMA without going to a DRC in person by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362).

The phone line is open seven days a week and is toll-free. Those who use a relay service such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service, or more, are advised to give that number to FEMA.

People can also register on the Disaster Assistance website or the mobile phone FEMA app.

The FEMA Disaster Assistance application deadline is December 2, 2024.
