QUINWOOD, WV (WVNS) – Concerned citizens of Quinwood and surrounding areas are voicing their concerns after they left unsatisfied from the recent Greenbrier County Board of Education meeting.

After a lackluster board of education meeting on October 8th, citizens are concerned but determined to save their school.

Don Bostic is a concerned citizen who has substituted at Crichton Elementary School in the past. He says now more than ever, the western end of Greenbrier County is in need of this school.

“You take these students out of an environment that is already challenging. Many of these students come from single family homes, foster homes or grandparent homes. They simply do not have the resources and the infrastructure needed for their success,” said Bostic.

If the school does suffer a closure, students will be forced to travel up to an extra hour to make it to school.

Rainelle or Rupert elementary would catch the overflow of these students. Bostic says the community is prepared to take measures into their own hands if needed.

“We are a very tight knit community that cares about our kids and we’re not just going to sit on our laurels and wait for the school board to make a decision in February and then leave or shut up cold,” said Bostic.

The Greenbrier County Board is moving forward with ‘info gathering’ to make a decision before the next school year.

This school needs to be closed and tore down. This school is way too old and needs replaced. There are kids in this county that has to travel 30 minutes to an hour already, these kids are no different. These kids deserve a new school or to be in a new up to date school.
