    UPDATE: Flagger dies after being hit by driver in Lincoln County work zone

    UPDATE: (9:58 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17) — A man who was hit by a driver while out working on the road Thursday night has passed away.

    That’s according to the West Virginia State Police who tells 13 News that Venancio Santos was working as a flagger for a tree company when he was hit and killed.

    Santos was from Kentucky and was in his forties.

    It happened around 5 p.m. on Thursday on Route 214 in Yawkey.

    State Police say the driver who hit him stayed on the scene.

    No charges have been filed at this time. The incident is still being investigated.


    UPDATE: (6:40 p.m.) – Lincoln County 911 dispatchers say State Route 214 has reopened after a worker was struck in a work zone Thursday night.


    LINCOLN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A worker in a work zone on State Route 214 has been taken to the hospital, according to dispatchers.

    They say this happened in the 4000 block of State Route 214, also known as Midway Road, in Yawkey Thursday afternoon. The road is still shut down.

    The West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.
