Meghan Markle embraced artisan design on her second public appearance during her visit to Colombia on Thursday. Accompanied by her husband, Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex attended a ceremony at the Delia Zapata National Arts Center in Bogota, where she wore a maxi dress by Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz.

Markle’s dress featured a Navajo weaver pattern created with metallic threads contrasting with a blush pink panel and burgundy details. The ensemble included a cutout in the bodice and a front slit. She accessorized her look with Lanvin earrings, a Cartier watch and bracelet and Jimmy Choo shoes.

One of the largest Native American tribes in the United States, the Navajo tribe developed its own weaving textile tradition, which has been integral to their culture for centuries and is mainly known for its geometric solid patterns, as seen in Markle’s dress.

Ortiz is a Colombia-native fashion designer who works with bold prints and feminine silhouettes. Markle previously wore a gold dress by Ortiz to attend the 2022 Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Awards. Other celebrities who have been seen wearing the Colombian designer include Kate Hudson and Karlie Kloss.

The couple started a four-day tour in Colombia to promote mental health and combat cyberbullying among young people. Their visit will include engagements at local schools to raise awareness about digital literacy and mental health issues.

Markle and Harry were welcomed in Bogota by Colombia’s Vice President Francia Márquez. The American Riviera Orchard founder wore a navy Veronica Beard waistcoat and suede Manolo Blahnik pumps for the occasion.
