    LONDON Emerging jewelry brands are embedding their wares with more than just diamonds.

    These five brands have woven stories into their pieces, including sustainability and ethicality, from utilizing recycled metals and lab grown diamonds to certifications from B-Corp and the Responsible Jewellery Council.

    Wanderlust Life

    Known for its dreamy accessories with outdoorsy inflections, Wanderlust Life has emphasized its commitment to sustainability by becoming B-Corp certified.

    “Nature is our constant inspiration, so we’re determined to develop practices that preserve and promote the environment,” said Georgie Roberts, brand founder and creative director.

    Since 2013, the brand has crafted sustainably produced jewelry made by a team of female makers who work with semi-precious gemstones, recycled silver, 14-karat gold fill, 14-karat gold vermeil and 9-karat solid gold. “And because we design and make our jewelry to carry intention, meaning and spirit, the happiness and well-being of our producers and makers is intrinsic to our work and to our products,” Roberts added.

    Founded in 2018, Daphine’s artfully elegant jewelry is handmade in the brand’s Jaipur atelier. Working with local artisans, the brand’s founders Damasia Ball and Philippine de Follin focus on creating pieces that are mindfully made, each certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

    Small quantities, 18-karat gold laid over recycled brass, and biodegradable packaging are just some of the ways the brand has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable practices, with supporters including collaborator Monikh Dale.

    Edge of Ember creates jewelry with impact. For the past four years, the brand has worked solely with recycled metals, which they report has reduced their carbon footprint by 42.72 percent. But their dedication to sustainable and ethical practices doesn’t end there: Edge of Ember solely works with craftspeople that are paid living wages and lab-grown diamonds to create beautifully delicate jewelry that doesn’t break the bank.

    The brand came to international fame after Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, wore a piece from the brand on her final days in the U.K. before relocating abroad with her husband, Prince Harry, in 2020.
