Rouge hues have taken off this year after scarlet shades took the runways of Valentino, Carolina Herrera and Emilia Wickstead by storm during the fall 2023 season. Stars including Selena Gomez , Florence Pugh and Kylie Jenner have brought the trend into 2024, incorporating red at events such as the Golden Globes and Paris Couture Week.
At the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday in Elmont, New York, the fiery fad was embraced by singers like Halsey and Halle Bailey. Below, see the best red looks at the ceremony.
Halsey
Halsey’s vintage leopard print Versace gown featured crystal embellishments and a high neckline. Her sheer frock, sourced from Janet Mandell, was previously worn by Elizabeth Hurley. A pair of Graziela drop earrings completed Halsey’s look.
Halle Bailey
Bailey wore a strapless Sophie Couture midi dress featuring cutouts and beaded fringe. The singer and actress added on Pandora jewelry, including bracelets and rings, as well as satin Jimmy Choo Etana sandals.
Nicky Hilton Rothschild
Nicky Hilton Rothschild sparkled in a crystallized cutout Bronx and Banco gown from the label’s fall 2024 collection. The heiress accessorized with embellished peep-toe heels and drop earrings, wearing her blond tresses in a “wet” look.
Angela Simmons, daughter of Run-D.M.C. founder Joseph Simmons and niece of music executive Russell Simmons, wore a halter-neck latex midi dress featuring a keyhole cutout. She added on a pair of matching patent leather pumps and diamond-encrusted bangles.
Jessie Murph
Jessie Murph paired a bedazzled t-shirt dress with knee-high slouch boots, wearing her dark tresses in a ’60s-inspired beehive.
The MTV VMAs recognize the year’s best music videos, artists and songs. Megan Thee Stallion makes her hosting debut during the 2024 ceremony, held at the UBS Stadium in Elmont, New York on Sept. 11. Katy Perry will receive the honorary Video Vanguard Award, while performers include Shawn Mendes, Lenny Kravitz, Eminem and Karol G.
