Natalie Portman made a regal entrance at the Deauville American Film Festival on Saturday in France. The actress attended the festival’s award ceremony ahead of its closure on Sunday.

For the occasion, Portman selected a sheer puff-sleeve Dior gown from the label’s resort 2025 collection . Evoking a knight’s armor, her frock featured crystallized mesh and a belted embroidered bodice. A jeweled choker and peep-toe platforms completed Portman’s look.

The actress wore her brunette tresses straightened, while her makeup consisted of sparkly eyeshadow, black eyeliner and rosy blush.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri debuted her latest collection in Scotland in June. Per WWD’s Samantha Conti, the designer was inspired by Mary, Queen of Scots and Christian Dior ’s enchantment with the country, where he staged a 1955 fashion show.

“It’s poetic, romantic and like a fairy tale place with all the castles,” Chiuri told WWD of Scotland. “Think about how the outdoor culture of the country has influenced designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen — to name a few. I wasn’t surprised that Mr. Dior was fascinated by this country and its textiles.”

Chiuri’s own fascination could be seen in her collection, where she melded both hard and soft elements: her puff sleeves on sheer dresses and tops evoked Elizabethan power shoulders, while sculptural skirts on minidresses nodded to suits of armor.

“Mary Stuart’s wardrobe mixed very fragile lace with velvet, and there was a dialogue between very different materials,” added Chiuri, referring to Mary Queen of Scots. “So in the show we mixed together sportswear with fragile materials. Corsets act like accessories, while cotton and wool fabrics come with embroideries.”
