Historically, Paris is known as the leading voice when it comes to street style , but with fashion week in the City of Light just kicking off, allow some time to reflect on its runner-up: Milan.

While the spring 2025 circuit in the Italian metropolis was full of directional trends , the overall mood among show goers was to ditch the streetwear and dress up. After all where is better to wear fashion with a capital “F” than a fashion show?

From crystal embellishments on jackets to playful volumes and even a full-length gown or two, glamour came back in a major way. Even in monochromatic-black, the Milanese’s artful curation of a head-to-toe look made for some great style moments away from the runways.

All-black

As previously reported , head-to-toe black was everywhere this season and while there’s nothing newsworthy about a fashionista wearing the dark neutral, a few showed their skills with layers and accessories could turn it into something paparazzi-worthy.

Glamour

Why wait for the sun to set to wear an evening gown? In Milan, that’s just another Tuesday morning. Sweeping hemlines aside, the Milanese also indulged in their love for glamour with sequins and fringes galore as well as sky-high stilettos.

Volume

Street stylers also made a statement with their shape, physically taking up space both on the streets and in the front rows. While puddle pants might not be the most innovative, it was the go-to version of the trend for many. Others more prone to taking risks exaggerated their proportions all over with tent dresses and sculptural outerwear.

Prints and Patterns

From Missoni’s zig-zags to Prada’s archival bananas, prints and patterns made a playful statement on the streets in Milan. Some clashed them together in a single outfit, while other like Kirsten Dunst went for a more demure look, with an old-Hollywood take on micro-florals.

Leather

Leather, a major street-style trend during New York Fashion Week, continued to dominate in Milan. Go figure, Italian’s know their way around the material. The show venues for major leather houses like Gucci, Fendi and Bottega Veneta were a perfect backdrop to show off their latest leather wares, be it a jacket or “It” bag.
