    Guide to Memorial Day parades and ceremonies across Metro Detroit in 2024

    (WWJ) – This Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer and communities across Metro Detroit will be celebrating by honoring fallen and missing soldiers with parades and ceremonies all weekend.

    Here's a guide to Memorial Day events happening across Metro Detroit Friday-Monday.

    Friday, May 24

    Southfield Veterans’ Commission Ceremony, 9 a.m. – The city of Southfield will commemorate Memorial Day on Friday in Southfield Council Chambers – 26000 Evergreen Road – with remarks from Southfield Mayor Dr. Ken Siver and Southfield Veterans’ Commission Chairperson Dr. Rodney Caruthers. The ceremony will also feature an address from a retired sergeant and performances by local bands.

    Saturday, May 25

    Trenton Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – The Trenton parade will begin at 10 a.m. along West Road near B&D Vacuum Cleaners More details available here.

    Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. - The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Cowan and John R. and ends at the Madison High School football field, where a ceremony will take place. More details available here.

    Sunday, May 26

    St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade, 1 p.m. – The 71st Annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade will run north on Harper from 9 Mile to 11 Mile. Festivities will be held Saturday night in the Downtown Social District at 9 Mile and Mack, including food trucks, live music and a drone light show. More details available here.

    Memorial Day Concert at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, 3 p.m. – White Chapel will host a free Memorial Day concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, in front of the Temple of Memories. An American Flag Display will also be at White Chapel from Friday-Monday. More details available here.

    Monday, May 29 (Memorial Day)

    Memorial Day Parade of Heroes in Rochester Hills, 9 a.m. – The parade will begin at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester, ending with a ceremony at Veteran's Point in Rochester Hills. There will be hot dogs at the Rochester Fire Station at 1:30 p.m. More details available here.

    Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, 9 a.m. – The parade steps off on Main Street at Lincoln and will be immediately followed by a ceremony at the Royal Oak Veterans War Memorial in Centennial Commons. A pancake breakfast at the Royal Oak Farmer's Market runs 7-11 a.m. More details available here.

    South Lyon Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. 9 a.m. – The parade steps off from Bartlett Elementary and makes its way east on 10 Mile Road through downtown to Reynold Sweet Parkway. The parade ends in the South Lyon Cemetery with a ceremony honoring all veterans. More details available here.

    Sterling Heights Memorial Day Parade, 9 a.m. – Sterling Heights’ 45th annual parade begins with a ceremony in the courtyard between City Hall and the Police Department. A flyover of authentic Tuskegee Airmen WWII airplanes at approximately 9:30 a.m. will be followed by the parade, which steps off from Dodge Park at 10 a.m., ending at Heritage Jr. High, at Metro Parkway.

    Dearborn Memorial Day Parade, 9:30 a.m. – The 98th Annual Dearborn Parade – known as the oldest Memorial Day Parade in Michigan – will run along Michigan Avenue, from Nowlin to South Brady. This year's parade will pay tribute to Purple Heart recipients and honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in service to the United States. A remembrance ceremony will take place on the lawn of the Dearborn Historical Museum at noon. More details available here.

    Farmington and Farmington Hills Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – Dating back to 1970, the Farmington parade will begin Monday morning near Grand River Avenue and Orchard Lake Road, heading west on Grand River to Oakland Street. A ceremony will take place at the Farmington War Memorial Monument in Memorial Park, followed by a free community luncheon at the American Legion Hall, located at 31775 Grand River Avenue.     Ferndale Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – The Ferndale parade will start at Livernois at Maplehurst, going to W. Oakridge, west to Pinecrest, south to 9 Mile, East to Livernois. Festivities will conclude, as usual, with a ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Mall. More details available here.

    Grosse Pointe Memorial Day Ceremony, 10 a.m. – The ceremony will be held at the base of Les Brave II: At Water’s Edge sculpture at the Alger House on Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms. It will include musical tributes, remarks of remembrance and honor, and a recitation of the names of Grosse Pointe residents who lost their lives in service.

    Northville Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – The parade starts on Griswold Street and proceeds West on Main Street, South on Wing Street, then West on Cady Street, briefly stopping at Oakwood Cemetery. It then proceeds South on First Street, ending at Rural Hill Cemetery where there will be a memorial service.     Novi Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – Festivities will begin before the parade with the Memorial Day Run at 7:30 a.m. and the parade will step off at 10 a.m. from Meadowbrook Commons, heading west on 10 Mile to the Civic Center. More details available here.

    Roseville Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. – The parade will begin near Common and Normal, and head east, ending at the Roseville Fire Department's Headquarters. The Parade will be followed by an in-person ceremony on the steps of City Hall. More details available here.

    Beverly Hills Memorial Day Parade, 10:30 a.m. – The parade has long been hosted by Beverly Hills Little League. All players and family members are invited to wear their jerseys and hats and walk in the parade, which leaves from Birmingham Groves High School. A carnival will follow from noon-2 p.m. at Beverly Park. More details available here.

    93rd Annual WWI Polar Bear Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m – White Chapel Memorial Park in Troy will also host a service on Monday in front of the Polar Bear Monument, honoring a group of Michigan soldiers known as the “Polar Bears.” The group made history more than 100 years ago as the first U.S. soldiers to fight Russians in battle. This spring marks the 104th anniversary of the Polar Bears returning home. Throughout the weekend the park will also display 500 American flags leading to the Memorials in honor of WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf War Veterans, as well as a POW/MIA memorial.

    Milford Memorial Day Parade, 11 a.m. – The parade starts at the American Legion Hall on Commerce Road and ends in Central Park on Main Street. More details available here.
