SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) — A woman is facing drunk driving and other charges after allegedly hitting police cars and driving through yards in Shelby Township while she was more than three times the legal limit.

Madison Forsyth was arraigned last month on charges of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated, Shelby Township police officials announced Thursday on Facebook.

Shelby Twp. police officers were called to the area of Ruann and Connies on July 21 after getting reports that a car had hit several parked cars and was still driving around the area.

Officers spotted Forsyth’s car and as they were trying to pull her over, she allegedly rammed the patrol car. She also hit a second patrol car that tried to intervene, officials said.

While she was attempting to flee, Forsyth “drove in an aggressive manner” toward a group of citizens, who jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, according to police.

Forsyth then started driving through backyards in the area in an attempt to elude police before she hit a post and came to a stop.

After failing a field sobriety test, Forsyth blew a .25% BAC on a preliminary breath test.

She was arraigned on July 23. She has been released from custody after posting a $500 bond.

“I was stunned to hear that Forsyth was allowed to leave after paying such a low bond after all the damage and danger she inflicted,” Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide said, per a press release.

Shelide said he was “shocked” that Forsyth “wreaked havoc” and damaged multiple vehicles before “driving right at innocent civilians.”

Authorities did not release Forsyth's age or hometown.
