Suspected drunk driver crashes into St. Clair Shores police car

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) A crash involving a St. Clair Shores police car injured an officer and the at-fault driver.

In a statement on X, Michigan State Police (MSP) said Detroit Regional Communications Center was notified of the crash on Saturday (8/3) around 1:20 a.m.

According to MSP, investigation at the scene revealed the St. Clair Shores patrol car was parked on the right shoulder of westbound I-94 at 10 Mile, looking for a “reported stolen vehicle in the area.”

The driver of a Buick Envision, driving westbound on I-94, ran off the roadway to the right and rear-ended the patrol car, MSP said.

The Buick came to a stop on the grass embankment, and the patrol came to rest horizontally in the right and center lanes.

The driver was under the influence of alcohol, according to MSP.

The suspect and the officer were taken to a hospital. The officer has since been released. The suspect is still hospitalized in undisclosed condition, and will be taken to the Macomb County Jail after release while prosecutors review potential charges.
