34 cats and kittens rescued from Washtenaw County home, many up for adoption

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) The Humane Society of Huron Valley rescued 34 cats and kittens from a home in Washtenaw County.

In a post on Facebook ; the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) said their rescue officers made six separate trips last week to the house to help the cats, and masked up “to go through (the home) smelling so strongly of urine it was hard to breathe.”

“Most of the adults had to be rescued with live traps, as the home was filled with piles that they could dart through and hide behind,” the post read.

Mewling cries led rescue officers to a litter of five kittens who were only days old, the HSHV said.

Officers realized the kittens were “cold to the touch” and placed a heat disk in their carriers. They took the kittens for treatment right away.

“All but one survived,” the post read.

Some of the cats are ready for adoption, while others need to stay in the HSHV's care a little longer for medical treatment and to regain trust.

They said 5-month old Yamaha is still “learning to trust people” and needs a forever home where he can “come out of his shell.”

Tuba , a black and white tuxedo cat, is also available for adoption.

According to the HSHV; their shelters and vet clinics are already over capacity caring for the “unprecedented number of animals who need (their) help.”
