DETROIT (WWJ) -- An elderly Detroit man who walked away from his home on the city's west side has been recovered a day after a Serious Missing alert was issued.

Detroit police on Wednesday said the alert had been issued for 87-year-old Nathaniel Rucker, who was last seen at his home in the 18400 block of Bretton, in the area of Grand River Avenue and the Southfield Freeway. He later left the home on Wednesday, according to police.

Officials said Wednesday that Rucker's son was concerned for his well-being, telling police that his father has dementia.

In an update Thursday afternoon, DPD officials said Rucker had been recovered. No further details were provided.
