FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) -- A suspect has been arrested after a nearly five-hour standoff Thursday, at a home in Farmington Hills.

According to Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King, officers first responded at around 7 a.m. to the 31000 block of Nine Mile Rd., when a 911 call came in about a felonious assault by a man armed with a knife.

When the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, King said, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded to assisted local police, surrounding the house.

During the lengthy standoff, the chief stressed that the suspect was fully contained and there was no danger to the public.

It remained an active scene late throughout the morning hours, as police played the waiting game, trying to talk the suspect out.

At around 12:30 p.m., police said the standoff ended peacefully as the man was taken into custody through the work of SWAT team members and police.

As for the initial assault, WWJ's Jon Hewett reports early information is that this involved a rideshare situation. The victim was in the area to pick someone up, according to witnesses, and the suspect was apparently upset that the person was using his driveway.

"A knife or sharp-bladed object was then drawn by the homeowner onto the vehicle — or toward the driver, I should say — from what we're told by nearby resident," Hewett said.

    No injuries were reported.

Further details, including about the suspect himself, have not yet been released as the investigation continues.
