DETROIT (WWJ) -- It'll be a wet end to the week in Metro Detroit, with plenty of rain on the way Friday afternoon, through the weekend. And with that rain will come thunderstorms that could turn severe — particularly on Friday.

"If you're headed out to take part in the Dream Cruise today or tomorrow, you're gonna be dealing with wet weather," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Heather Zehr, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950.

"It's definitely already more humid and we've got some showers moving into western parts of the area; heavy thunderstorms are going to be around as well," said Zehr. "Both of those off and on through the day; watch for flooding downpours and damaging winds with those stronger storms."

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest risk for severe weather will be between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, with wind gusts up to 60 mph being the primary threat.

Zehr said Metro Detroiters should expect showers around into Saturday, although the risk for heavier storms will be lower on Saturday.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is expected to go on as planned, rain or shine, but attendees should be prepared to seek shelter if a strong storm does blow in.

On Sunday, Metro Detroit will get some more rain, with another chance for a couple of thundershowers.

Meanwhile, it's going to be humid, Zehr said, making high temperatures in the mid-70s to around 80 degrees feel a bit warmer than that.

Finally, the humidity starts to drop on Monday, when it'll be dry, with mostly sunny skies.

The extended AccuWeather forecast for next week is overall looking pretty pleasant, with highs in the 70s and plenty of sunshine.
