(WWJ) - People looking for an opportunity to take their off-road vehicles out to Michigan trails can do it free this weekend.

The DNR is offering people the chance to try Michigan’s 4,000 miles of off-road vehicle trails for free this Saturday and Sunday, according to their website.

Michigan’s six scramble areas are also open. Each scramble area offers “unique and exciting ORV riding opportunities for riders of all abilities and experience levels. The areas are Silver Lake State Park , Holly Oaks ORV Park , The Mounds ORV Park , St. Helen’s Motorsports , Bull Gap ORV Hill Climb and Black Mountain Recreation Area .

Visitors will need to have their own vehicles and follow the rules for being on the trails.

The entrance fee for Holly Oaks is also being waived for the weekend.

ORV licenses and trail permits can also be purchased for the season . Licenses are $26.25 and permits are $10. You need to have both the license and permit to legally use the ORV trails and routes. Both are good for one year, from April 1 through March 31 of each year.

The fees from the sales “help pay for trail brushing, signage, maintenance, bridge and culvert construction, maintenance of trailhead amenities and other expenditures,” the website said.

Free ORV Weekend is offered twice a year. This year the weekends were June 8 and 9 and Aug. 17 and 18. There is also a free snowmobile weekend each year.
