Police have arrested and charged a Detroit-area doctor who allegedly used hidden cameras to secretly film women and children in the hospital where he worked for six years.

“This is one of the most disturbing sexual predator cases I have seen in my very long career,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told a press conference on Thursday.

Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, has been charged for recording children as young as two and women recovering from operations in various rooms in the hospital where he worked, according to the sheriff’s office .

A press release from the sheriff’s office alleged that Aejaz spied on people in closets, changing rooms, bathrooms, and bedrooms at the hospital, as well as a local swim club.

Aejaz has now been charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child; one count of using a computer to create and/orreproduce child sexual abuse material, and four counts of capturing or recording children under 18 and two women while nude.

“He violates literally anyone and everyone he can. From a 2-year-old boy to grown women, no one is immune from his disgusting predatory behavior,” Bouchard said at the press conference, noting that “because there are so many” victims, many of them are unknown.

The sheriff’s department was tipped off about Aejaz on August 7 and quickly carried out an investigation that led to a raid on his home the next day.

During the raid, six computers, four cell phones, and 15 external storage devices were confiscated.

The sheriff’s office noted that one device contained 13,000 videos that dated back six years. Detectives are estimating that it will take at least six months to fully examine the devices seized.

Aejaz’s bond has been set at $2 million, according to the sheriff’s office.

“At the end of this case, it is my fervent hope that he is held fully accountable behind bars,” Bouchard said.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald also spoke at the press conference, sharing that the Aejaz took advantage of the victims who saw him as “a person of trust in the community.”

“These are children and moms at a swim school,” McDonald said during the news conference.

Aejaz had privileges at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township and Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township.

Both have shared that they are working with the authorities on the investigation.

“We are shocked by these allegations and take them very seriously. This individual has never been an employee of Henry Ford Health but had privileges at several area hospitals, including Henry Ford Macomb Hospital,” Henry Ford Macomb Hospital said in a statement. “The safety of our patients and team members is our top priority, and we have taken immediate action to prevent him from practicing at our health system.”
