MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) — A young man is dead and another is injured after they were thrown from their motorcycles in a crash on I-75 Thursday night.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 along northbound I-75 near 14 Mile Road in Madison Heights, according to Michigan State Police.

The motorcycles were “speeding and weaving in and out of traffic lanes,” when they hit the rear passenger side of a Chevy Silverado in the left center lane, according to MSP.

Both men — a 19-year-old from Saginaw and a 20-year-old from Swartz Creek — were ejected from their bikes and landed on the right shoulder.

Officials said the driver of the Silverado “came to a controlled stop” on the right shoulder and was not hurt.

The Saginaw man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. His condition was not disclosed.

“We continue to see preventable traffic crashes caused by risky driving behaviors.” First Lt. Mike Shaw said on X . “As you can imagine these behaviors are even worse on a motorcycle. Please ride safely.”

The freeway was closed for several hours during the investigation and has since reopened.
