BROWNSTOWN TWP (WWJ) -- A driver is recovering after being hit by his own car on I-75 in Wayne County.

In a statement on X, Michigan State Police Second officials said the driver, a 31-year-old Detroit man, got out of his disabled vehicle on I-75 near Sibley in Brownstown Township around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver of a Ford Focus, in the southbound right lane on I-75, “couldn’t stop, hitting the disabled vehicle," causing the Impala to then hit the driver who was out of his car.

The driver of the Chevy Impala was hospitalized in unknown condition. According to Brownstown Township Fire Chief Jeff Drouillard, his injuries are "non-life-threatening."

The second driver was not hurt.

“We want to remind drivers that if you are experiencing car trouble or in a crash, please move the vehicle out of the traffic lane.” MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said, via X. “If you cannot move the vehicle, stay in your car with the seatbelt fastened. Call 911 for assistance. Often people do not realize how fast traffic is moving until it is too late.”
